If you’ve spent more than five minutes in the bookish corners of the internet, you’ve probably seen people talking about their “TBR.” You might have nodded politely, pretending you totally knew what that meant. And hey, maybe you did. But in case you’re still wondering if it’s some kind of rare autoimmune disorder or weird fitness acronym… allow me to explain.
TBR = To Be Read.
That’s it. That’s the whole mystery. It’s the growing, teetering stack of books you fully intend to read — eventually. Someday. After this one. Okay fine, after just one more late-night Amazon click.
Your TBR can live in many forms:
– A physical stack next to your bed that doubles as a nightstand
– A scribbled list in the notes app that you forget exists
– A Goodreads shelf so long it requires its own scrolling soundtrack
– Or, let’s be honest, your entire Kindle library
Here’s the kicker: the TBR is never finished. Like laundry. Or emails. Or plot twists in a Ruth Ware novel. The moment you read one book, you add three more to the pile. It’s the circle of literary life, and we bookaholics wouldn’t have it any other way.
So the next time someone says, “What’s on your summer TBR?” you can confidently answer, “Oh, just a few thrillers, a steamy rom-com, and the slow, crumbling collapse of my self-control.”
Need help building your summer TBR? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Check out my next post coming tomorrow.
