Confession: I binge Tracker and can’t get enough of Colter Shaw. So when I grabbed South of Nowhere, I had high hopes. Spoiler: It delivers. I love the show Tracker and am more than a little in love with Justin Hartley, who plays Shaw. So naturally, I had to read Jeffrey Deaver’s latest installment starring the original action hero himself. And wow — buckle up. This is two days in the life of this action hero and the nonstop mayhem that will leave you breathless and, yes, picturing Hartley in every single scene (you’re welcome).

The plot? Let’s just say Colter Shaw has his hands full. In the span of two days, he visits his survivalist mother at the family Compound, uncovers a half-sister he never knew existed, and gets pulled into a conspiracy big enough to wipe a town off the map. Along the way, he’s helping his sister Dorian stop a catastrophic flood, rescuing two cars from a raging river, catching an abusive boyfriend, battling gunmen, surviving an attack from a literal bear-man (yes, really), saving a farm (and having a little romance while he’s at it), and unraveling why someone sabotaged a local mine and nearly destroyed a town. Deaver delivers action, suspense, and twists galore — you’ll need a scorecard just to keep up. And let’s be honest — imagining Justin Hartley as your action hero certainly doesn’t hurt.
